Eastern Christian has been partnering with Touch The World Ministries (TTW) since 2008 to present a Missions-based class to our students. Cross-Cultural Perspectives and Service (CCPS) course allows our students to integrate their faith through a service-learning component both locally and globally. As students are taught in lessons of service, culture and poverty and get to experience these elements first-hand during the school year and specifically during a Spring Break Mission Trip, they are truly living out Eastern Christian’s core mission to transform the world.
Eastern Christian has partnered along with Touch The World Ministries based out of Allendale, New Jersey because of the expertise they offer in the field of missions. TTW staff work alongside EC faculty to present a biblically-based missions curriculum, engaging students in discussion, training and service opportunities. TTW assists by providing all of the planning and logistical details of the mission trips offered as well as supplying experienced leadership on the field. TTW will run all the required meetings and specific missions trainings in the CCPS course and will facilitate a weekend-long “Mission Training” retreat in the winter (President’s Weekend in February). Most of the correspondence regarding the CCPS course and mission trip will come through TTW as they facilitate each trip through collaboration with EC. Students may participate in mission trips without taking the CCPS course but are encouraged to enroll prior to their first trip.
Students are informed in the Spring of the mission trip location options for the following school year. Detailed information about all the trips being offered, which will include the application, prices and dates, will be available in May. At that time, students may submit Pre-Applications to express their interest in enrolling. Final enrollment occurs during the first weeks of September, after students have been approved by the Dean for participation and trip placement.
CCPS is a course that does not meet during a traditional class time. That means students can still take the class and earn 2.5 credits even if normal blocks are filled with other classes. CCPS is open to any grade and students may take this course multiple years, if desired. Students who do not wish to take this course may earn FIA credit.
